Private Health Insurance Ombudsman and the role they play

As part of RNIS Healthy living month

Many students don't know where they can go to get help and we explain the Ombudsman system.
Looking after yourself is important

Many students are on their Overseas Student Health Cover and are generally satisfied with it. But there are times when things go wrong with their health cover. The students try to resolve with them, but they would not budge. This is where the Ombudsman comes in.

Like The Victorian Ombudsman they listen to complaints and act on them. If you have a problem with your Overseas Student Health cover provider and they won't budge then you can take the complaint to them.

Like the Ombudsman this is a free service.

Student A had a huge problem with their health fund. Student A is from China and this is her second year in Melbourne. Student A had broken their leg in the middle of the semester and had special consideration. They had to pay $12000 to get it fixed at the hospital. As a student, they don't have a lot of money to cover their medical bills and tuition and other things. Their Health fund refused to pay for the medical insurance leaving them in limbo land. The student complained to their provider, but to no avail. If they had not gone to Ombudsman they would have been left without money for the food.

Luckily though the Ombudsman made the provider reimburse the student

If you need any help you can call them on 1800 640 695 which is a free number. It is free and confidential. For more information you can check out this site
