As part of our At home and Abroad series.
Adriano Zumbo Patisserie was always a popular dessert and bakery store. Well actually it is a chain which started in Sydney.
Adriano Zumbo is known for his extraordinary desserts. His bakehouse featured in Masterchef and wowed the viewers all over. His desserts are original.
Here at the South Yarra store it was really busy with lots and lots of fans outside the door all wanting the cronut. By 11am when I came along it was almost sold out.
But never fear, there was always the macarons ($2.50 each) and the other pastries such as SYN ($5) and Pepitos bun (creme bun with raisins inside, $4.50). The big desserts are $9 each. They also sell big cakes for $25-$45 each. They are in the porccess of setting up an online store where you can purchase cakes online for the Melbourne store.
They are also in the process of ordering more tables and chairs for people to eat inside. They have some outside seating and limited seating inside. Hence people just order takeaway cakes, coffees and macaroons.
The staff were rather slow, but give them some more time as they are still learning how to serve customers. Give them a couple of weeks.
But I wanted to see what all the hype was about hence I enjoyed my short black inside ($3). My short black was a tad bit burnt.
They use their own brand of coffee beans which is #611. They also have their own tea products as well.
I loved my salted popcorn macaron. This is one of my favourite ones. I didn't like the other finger bun one though. It didn't have much taste to it.
But the SYN was to die for. I loved the custardy gooiness inside. I wasn't a fan of the strawberries though, they were a little bit dry and unappetizing.
The pepitos bun was lovely. The creme wasn't like your normal whipped cream, it was more custardy and sweeter.
Students if you haven't been to this shop you should go as it may just enhance your experience in Melbourne. You are not a true Melburnian if you have not discovered these weird and wonderful Melburnian desserts.
