There are quite a few different types of housing in Melbourne. As international students it is quite difficult to decide on which ones takes you fancy so here is the solution.
1) Student Accomodation
RMIT doesn't have any on campus accomodation. Instead it has the Old Village which is in North Melbourne.
There are also lots of other student accomodation in Melbourne. But it is best to get in early as places do fill up quickly. Most of the rentals in accomodation includes bills.
2) Share housing- you usually share with other students or proffessionals. This option is common for most students. Share houses can be somewhere between $150-$300 per week and it usually includes most furnitures. Sometimes the utility bills might be included in the rent. At other times it might not.
3) Apartments- this option is usually unfurnished and can be expensive to rent. They are normally located in or near the city. The utilities are not included in the rent, hence you will need to connect it yourself and pay for it yourself.
4) Homestays
This is a great chance to get to know Australian lifestyle. There is a placement fee and the rent is about $150-$200 per week including bills and meals.
