I had a great day in Carlton today...even though it was raining and did not start off too well. There were a couple of events that happened today. These were:
1)Carlton Orientation breakfast.
Not many people turned up for this because it was so cold and wet, but once after the rain cleared more people came. I helped out at the Student Union stall and they had free muffins for all students. Most of the muffins we gave away. I also distributed leaflets on my blog to interested students as well.
Not many stalls came today... therefore not many pictures.
I got to try a free egg roll for breakfast. This was pretty ordinary and pretty messy too by the way. I wished that they could have provided chilli sauce and plates and cutlery.
I also ate a free museli bar- it did not taste nice at all.
The free Emma and Toms juice was a bit too sweet for my liking.
2) Melbourne Uni library
Here I went by tram to Melbourne Uni. It is big compared to RMIT and they actually have more campuses than RMIT.
They also have bigger study spaces for students. If RMIT library is full why not study at Melbourne University. It is about 10-15 min tram ride up Swanston st. For those of you that live in the north west, get off at North Melbourne Station and then take a 10 min bus ride to Melbourne Uni.
Melbourne University libraries have everything. Their library spaces are big and unlike RMIT libraries they actually enforce the silent study rule. You cannot eat in the libraries at Melbourne Uni. RMIT Uni students can borrow their stuff provided that they have a CAVAL card (this is a card that allows students to borrow from other university libraries. You can pick one up from your home library)
Unlike RMIT library in the city there is a big Chinese collection of books.
I also went and visited the Union house. Here the Melbourne Uni General shop sells the Hoyts Movie tickets. I know that some of you have been asking the RMIT student union, but Student Union in RMIT does not have them. So here's where you can buy cheap movie tickets.
Melbourne Uni has a few bars and pubs unlike RMIT. They also have a Sake bar which I want to try, but was too full from lunch and my egg breakfast.
Here they also have Chinese, Italian, French, Vegetarian, Japanese, Indian and Aussie food. Like RMIT they have a theatre where students can see plays and movies. Unlike RMIT, they have a convenience store and two banks (RMIT only has Commonwealth bank).
Unlike RMIT city campus... Melbourne uni is very spacious with heaps of open space, a few sporting fields, a swimming pool and a gym.
RMIT students should visit here once in a while and see what the lifestyle is all about. Then you will be hooked and come here heaps of times. Its an opportunity not to be missed.
