RNIS went for the complimentary dumplings by Mapping Melbourne organisers but they paid for the okomiyaki and the squid themselves. They went with Happy Leandro bloggers who enjoyed a little bit of Kirin.
The Horse Bazaar is a cheap little Japanese izakaya that does Japanese and western foods and Japanese beers. What I like about them is that they cater for students during the week with their lunch specials.
The place is run by Japanese and service there tonight was friendly. They even charge people's phones if you ask them politely.
That night there was also free massages. Leandro got his free one, but I just didn't want one. I was happy just enjoying the bar, ok!.
The okomiyaki was good. It was $10 and really big and cheesey. I really enjoyed this.
I didn't enjoy their squid so much. It was chewy as as it had been overcooked. On other occasions I have enjoyed their rice dishes and their fried food ones, so perhaps this is a one off.
What I really loved was the gyoza. I didn't really enjoy the idea of having to share with other tables. It was really awkward having to butt into everyone else's conversations just to get our dumplings. And it was awkward for others to have to come to our table for their fix.
The gyoza were perfect though. The meat was tender.
I also enjoyed their chicken karrage. It was just fried perfectly. The only gripe is that they used too much oil in there.
Students do come and check out this lovely bar and do check them out on Tuesday where it is $15 for a massage and six dumplings.
