Salon De Sushi

Salon De Sushi is a new Japanese fusion place in South Melbourne. It was through Gastrology bloggers that I found out about this healthy cheap eat.

The place itself is like David Jones where you grab a ready made pack, salad, drinks and whatever else takes you fancy.

They are featured on Menulog, an online menu site where you can order food.

They have a lunch deal of $16.90 which includes a salad, sushi box of your choice and miso soup. The soup was homemade. I also added the veg rolls ($5.90) and a Hepburn Springs drink ($3.90). These drinks are really hard to find so this is a rare novelty.

Their salads are ready made and are sitting on the shelf. There's your typical Japanese ones and then there are some fusion ones in there such as the carrot one. Its got sultana in there. The dressing is rather citrusy.

It is run by Japanese and the lady that served me was very friendly like all the Japanese people are.

The Chirashi was very fresh and so was the veg rolls. The only one that I did not like was the beetroot one. It was a bit tasteless for my liking. The others I really enjoyed. They were filled with lots of different fresh fillings.

But it was very samll though and for $12.95 it was too small. That was my only one gripe. That and the paper boxes. They were beautiful to look at but a pain to open. And a waste of paper for those that want to eat in.

Verdict: Would love to come back for their sushi in the summer and spring. I would love to see more warm dishes for winter, but at least this is great healthy lunch.
