Money 101

Students you will need to know how to use money wisely as you'll have limited means. Most students will have to work part time jobs.

Plan ahead

By now you'll know how much you have spent in Melbourne and you'll know how much you need to spend. Learn to say no to things you don't need or can do without. You need money for rent, transport (if you ride a bike or walk to uni you might not need this) and food.

You'll also know how much income you will have and how you will get it.

Invest in good banking products

Look for bank accounts with the most savings. Do get the best deal and make sure that there is a bank on your campus. It is much more convenient than having to walk a few miles just to find your branch. Do invest in online banking products as they too can attract some interest.
ING has a savings maximiser account and most of the time they have specials.
Try not to get a credit card as you might find that it is difficult to pay back what you owe (plus interest).

Don't gamble

Gambling is a waste of money. Instead enjoy a night at home with friends. You might like the idea of gambling but in the end that might just get you into financial troubles later on.
