A great pho place should be cheap (mainly under $10), have plenty of pickled onions and great flavoured broth and rice noodles. The rice noodles are flat and wide. Oh and speedy service should be had. We list five of our favourites below.
1. Hao Phong- The bowls of pho were $10 each. Sure it may seem a lot for a pho but the bowls are huge and there's always free tea. The meat was done nicely and I loved the beef balls. What I didn't like was the tripe; it was too chewy and a little bit undercooked. That and the giblet.
But put all that aside the broth was flavoursome with all the onions in there and it was sweet.
2) Pho Dzung in the city- this is the best place for a pho. I got a small bowl at $8 and it filled me up. You can check out my other post
3) Pho Chu the- in Richmond- yummy and really fresh. The place is run by real Vietnamese. They have the pickled onions that I so love as well as the broth and the meat.
4) Pho Hung Vuong Saigon- this is one of Claudia's favourites as it is clean and it sells $8.50 small bowls, $9 for a medium and $10 for a large bowl. The broth was done really nicely. I love lots of pickled onions with mine
Sorry no pictures allowed at that place.
5) Pho House- it is one of mine and Kenny's favourite. Kenny from Consider the Sauce (CTS) had their last CTS feast here. The broth did not disappoint; it had no msg in it so it is good for those with a health kick. It is great to see that there is a pho joint that does do vegetarian pho. It is also great that the place is tidy.
Which one is your favourite place? Sorry that I have not covered Springvale- it is waaay too far from the city and its in zone 2. Many students don't have a car.
