Where can i buy books now that most of the bookstores are gone?

The times are changing. Everyone buys their books online at amazon and ebay
This is why Borders, Angus and roberston and Collins bookstores have closed for good. There used to be a Borders inside Melbourne Central but now it is closed and replaced by a clothing store called GAP which Melbourne central does not need.

This is because everyone is now reading books electronically. Most people have an iPad

Well you can buy most of your books online now. But there are still a few bookshops such as Hill of content, Readings, Embiggen and Rendevous.

Embiggen is a bookstore in the city that I have not been to yet.

Readings is a bookshop in Carlton that has been around for quite some time. Here they sell everything for everyone. It still has its charm of the early days.

Brunswick still has a few antique bookshops and this is where I bought my Age cafe guide ($10) from. I love the charm of these bookshops. It reminds me of the old days where people used to read paper back and rare books and they were really beautiful.
Now technology has replaced most of the books which makes me sad. Gone are the days that everything used to be published in print and you had to buy it from the store.

There is a mag nation in Prahran near the Prahran station where you can sit and read. You can also enjoy a hot drink ($3) whilst reading. Sorry they only use take away cups not the glass ones you see on display.
You can also read Magazines in there and forget the rest of the world.
And of couse WH and Smith is now a chain store almost taking over Melbourne. Here they have stores at Melbourne Central and Southern Cross. Not only do they sell books, they sell food and magazines. Mass produced ones too which really puts the pressure on the independents. Now you know I would never support the chain stores unless I really have to. I like the little stores.
