Tax

THERE ARE two TYPES OF TAX that you need to pay
1) GST (goods and service tax)
Most things, except fresh food, rent, milk and meat are taxed by 10%. This tax is already included in the price you pay and will appear in the bottom of the receipt.

 2)Tax
If you are working you will need a tax file number. This is important because your employer needs to pay tax if you have earnt $6000 or more in the financial year. You can claim the tax back later by doing a tax return. The bank will also need to know your tax file number. If they don’t they will “deduct tax from any interest earned on the deposit account, above a certain threshold.”(Commonwealth bank, 2010)
You can apply online at: www.ato.gov.au
