Good Beer Week opens at Beer Deluxe

Good Beer Week returns with a bang and this is RNIS's first time at this event. With over 100 events to choose from this is a great time to celebrate all things featuring beer. There is an event to cater for everyones budget.

The beers were judged on quality. The festival was officially opened by the beer maestro who for the life of me cannot remember the name. We all clinked and cheered to open the festival

The music was lovely at the Festival Hub.

There were free drinks in the form of beer for those who rsvped on the Good Beer Week website but we still had to pay for food. Sadly though the burger does not come with chips and the venue does not have a lot of good food specials except for the beer tasting flight with nuts $12.

Many thanks to Zilla and Brook for organising this

The Pancake Parlour

RNIS was invited by MASCA to try their short stack pancakes and they did not have to pay.

The Pancake Parlour has been around for years and they have a store in Melbourne Central. They often do a lot of specials for students and shoppers alike on Melbourne Central shopping days.

I went in there for brunch and they were pretty quiet. But after 12pm they get busy with all the movie goers looking for lunch.

This pancake parlour was clean.

Pancake Parlour specialises in short stacks but they also have other pancakes and items which are savoury.

The short stack was nice but without the maple syrup and lemon it was a little bit dry and bland. But luckily though their ice cream was really good. They used their own flour to make the pancake.

It was not too sweet which is good.

Rating: 16/20- do check out this branch.
Many thanks to MASCA for the invite

Soy milky with museli

As part of Bupa's best blog competition for 2015

Soy Milky is a product by Sanitarium designed for those that can't have full cream milk. My friend bought the milk for me.

Soy milky was good but it didn't have a lot of that soy flavour. And it wasn't too sweet for me. It worked well with the museli and chia seeds

Do buy this milk if you are health concious.

Satu Produk Durian

As part of Bupa's best blog competition for 2015

This place is a durian dessert place in the heart of the city. These days it is so hard to find durian and places that sell them so this would be good news for durian fans. This place has not been open long.

I have tried durian before at one of the Malaysian festivals and although it smells it tastes nice and is a fruit.

Like Dessert story their main focus is dessert and dessert alone. They have meal sets for those that want to try two things in the one visit. And I got say though that the durian crepe looked good and so did the durian parfait.

You order and you pay upfront. And then they will give you a number. The cashier was a lovely lady who smiled and was very friendly.

I had the durian crepe (normally $3.8) and the cold coconut soup with durian ice cream( normally $8.80). With the meal deal its $10.80. The dessert was not too sweet and they used the durian well. But the crepe was hard to eat as it wasn't cut well. It was cut haphazardly.

But I loved the creaminess of the soup and the milky texture. I also loved the coconut bits as it was creamy and not like other jelly which is hard. At first taste I thought it was tofu.

Rating: 17/20- yummy, healthy desserts. Curious Charlie I know you enjoy these and you better come soon.

PJO'Briens

PJO'Briens is an Irish pub in Southbank which has been open for many years. It is known for their whiskey and guiness. They used to be really good when I went a few years back.

Oh how times have changed now.

We went there for a midweek dinner and it was busy with the punters all drinking. It was also Good Beer Week and they were keen to put on a show.

The service was a little bit slow. We waited at the counter for about five minutes and could see that they were understaffed. Food took a little while to come

We had the fish and chips with Kilkenny sauce and boy it was the worst one I have ever had. The fish was overcooked to the point it was dry. The chips were ok. We could barely taste the Kilkenny beer. At James Squire the fish and chips are much better and we can easily detect the beer.

The salad was very lukewarm because it was under all the chips.

But at least the batter and the homemade tartare sauce was good.

Rating: 10/20- not the best fish and chips I've had. And we saw that the other table did not finish their meals meaning that they didn't like it. Luckily though we had the Entertainment book voucher. We'll probably come only just for the drinks.

Btw: We loved the ambiance but the floor needs to be cleaned. It was sticky and had crumbs all over it.
