The MAP (Malaysian Aspiration Program) is a student based society in Melbourne for all Malaysians to connect with each other for a better Malaysia.
One of the key focus of the program is how can Malaysia be a better place for all its residents. Volunteering was one of the key aspects. Young people need to know how to help out for free (but for the love of it). Finances will always be a constraint for all Malaysians. Malaysia has some of its poorest residents in the flooded town of Kelatang but they all helped out in the flood relief. One of the Malaysian students from Australia went over there during the summer break and helped to build houses for the poorest people.
In Penang at the Heritage Trust Centre volunteerism is eminent. Social change has always been slow and they need more funding and hands on deck .
Education is another one and that's where some of MASCA's programs come into play. For one week they go to Malaysia and teach the young about English and all. But note that MASCA only selects the students that they want to teach.
To be a good leader you need to be educated and passionate about the issues that is going on Malaysia. You also need to problem solve. You also need be willing to share ideas and communicate with your team.
Students should be involved in the many issues that Malaysia is facing and be willing to discuss them. Some of the Malaysian and International student groups only hold a forum once a year and that is it
But what is happening in Melbourne to make Malaysia a better place?
There is a new community centre being built for all Malaysians and Signaporeans where they can connect with each other. Right now Mecca Melbourne are waiting for the funding. They promote their business via Fiesta Malaysia and other Malaysian events.
This ties in volunteering and teaching the Malaysians to be a much better leader in their home country.
