As part of Bupa's blog competition RNIS have decided to a movable feast in South Melbourne Market. We wanted to support local businesses in this sense and to prove that eating healthy can be cheap.
South Melbourne seafood
These people have won the award for best seafood supplier in 2014 and I can see why- they have the best $1 oysters in the market. They are big and fresh. Here you can have it with chilli sauce, siracha, lemon or plain. I tried mine with the siracha and the lemon and both were really salty, but I like the one with the siracha as I love hot chillis and the siracha was just perfect.
People also bought seafood to take home.
Moving along we visited the Sourdough bake house. Along the way we pass by some random discount store. Here they sold things for under $5.
At Sourdough we bought a bread filled with feta cheese for $3. The breads change daily depending on what they have and they leave samples out for their customers. We loved the freshly baked bread and sometimes you can smell this.
Our only gripe though is that it is tiny for that price.
Yoyo sushi
Here this place is next to Clement Coffee Roasters and close to the South Melbourne market dim sim place. All of their sushis are $2.50 each. I have eater there plenty of times and enjoyed it for its freshness. They use fish which is sourced from inside the market and the rice is just right. I usually don't have this with soy as it just adds to the calories and detracts from the real flavour of the fish and vegetables.
Do visit South Melbourne Market for your healthy foodie finds.
