International students being underpaid at MCG

International students are being underpaid as little as $16 per hour at MCG. We explain.
The campaign from United Voice

International students are working at the MCG as cleaners, cleaning the place after hours. This is usually after the match has been played. Hence it is after dark when they clean.

MCG has contracted the cleaning job to ISS and then they subcontract to First Cleaning company which employed some International students. This has been going on for a few years, but it not come to light until last Friday, just before a preliminary final.

International students and workers have been asked for an ABN (Australian Business Number), just so that the company can get away and not pay people properly or tax for that matter of fact. Connie from Eastern legal services said "that this practice is illegal" . Fair Work Ombudsman is in the process of investigating this matter after the workers union United Voice put in a complaint.

Whilst a crowd of 74753 attended this match last Friday night, the match generated a profit of  about $11,000,000 for this match. For the home and away season a ticket costs $25 per adult or $37 for reserve. The MCG can afford to pay people properly.

Our response and the petition
The petition had about 801 signatures, some from students and many from locals. We support this petition as it is not right that the MCG has so much money from each match, yet they don't pay their workers properly. This discrimination should end.

If you want to be paid properly for work in MCG then do sign the petition here
