Newport Farmers Market is just one of the smallest markets in Melbourne. Here it promotes the freshest of produce to those that live in Footscray, Yarraville, Seddon, Spotswood and Newport.
It is held at the substation on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month from 9am-1pm. It is about a ten to fifteen minute train ride from Melbourne's CBD and is in zone 1. Trains leaves every twenty minutes from the CBD. Bikes and dogs are welcome too.
Upon entry you are greeted with the lovely waft of eggs and bacon and you can have a lovely brunch at the market. Unfortunately there is no devonshire scones but there is the Ghost Kitchen truck which is Taiwanese.
The juices there are freshly made using the produce from their stalls. Here there was an apple stall, orange stall and other stalls which change from time to time depending on the season. But there is always a few jam, honey, meat and nut stalls. And like other markets you can try before you buy. This is a great (and free) way for International students learn about the Australian country food scene
There is free entertainment for all, but if you have coins you can a leave a tip in their hat. The performers do a great job.
There may appear to be no bathrooms but the bathrooms are inside the gallery.
Don't have breakfast at home. Just work up an appetite for the market. Oh and do bring some bags for your shopping.
