Prahran Market tour

As part of market week
As part of our Health series.

Prahran Market are offering free tours as part of Market Week. They are normally $25 but this week they are free. They all come with samples, goodie bags and the chance to get some inside knowledge about the market and the fresh produce. You can also gain some knowledge about what is in season.

There were about ten of us and we all met our lovely tour guide Hannah at the new Blanco Kitchen.

We started the tour with a visit to 53 Degrees east which is a nut store. Here we sampled many nuts including the new chilli pistachios. We also sampled some dried figs.

Next we visited the Gozleme shop where we watched a Turkish lady making the gozleme. Here I took a few photos. I remembered trying the place when it first opened and loved it.

Then we visited Paddlewheel which is a store that supports organic farms. Here they had the biggest goose eggs ever. They are $5 each but, like many expensive products can be used multiple times in cooking.

Damien's mushrooms is a favourite store of mine and here we spents lots of time there. In fact Damien's has been around for 27 years. They have won many awards for their mushrooms.

The tasmanian potato store was next on the list. Here they sell about 10-40 varieties of potatoes. Not only do they sell potatoes they also sell some lovely herbs.

We entered the deli. Here we tried the greek savoury pastries from Sweet Greek and baklava from Abla's.

Hannah also showed us the Market Coffee and Fritz Gelato place. She said the best time to shop is Saturday Afternoon when there are a lot of bargains. Also any of the food which is not sold by the end of the week get donated to a charity called SecondBite.
Salmon pieces

We went to my favourite area of the market: the meat and seafood place and here we visited Hagen's. I also bought some sushi at Claringbolds since I am highly addicted to these.

Lastly we visited Jasper coffee where you can try their coffee for free. You can also buy the coffee beans as well.

On the way back to Blanco Kitchen we passed a random Asian Grocery store and a French shop called Delicatess.

Also I bought bread at a new place inside the fruit and veg section. It was yummy and it was only $0.80.

Many thanks to Prahran Market and our lovely tour guide Hannah for showing us around
