Moving out what you need to know

Students do you need to move house? If so here are some hints and tips to help make moving a success and stress free

1) Notice- how much notice you need to give to your landlord. Four weeks is ideal as they and you will need time to find a new tenant. In writing is always the best.

2) Utilities- you need to give the companies at least a couple of days disconnect the utilities.

3) Mail- you will redirect your mail. At Australia post there is an option of having a PO box. A PO Box costs about $70 each year. Your mail will be safely stored and if ever you need to move then you won't have to worry about redirecting your mail. Share a mailbox (with your flatmates) and it is about $17-$18 a year.

4) Packing up the boxes- you'll need a removalist for this. They are not cheap with the lowest prices starting at $79 per hour. Grace removalists is one of the big companies and with that they have an online quote.

Think about the items that you need and don't need in the new house because any unnecessary boxes can cost more.

5) Getting back your bond- you should always do a bond transfer/refund form to get back your bond. Your bond should have been held by the Residential Tenancy Board. If not you may have some problems getting it back.

If you paid everything in full and haven't destroyed anything then yes you should be able to get your bond back. You do need to arrange that final inspection with the landlord before getting it back.
