Eat @ Affogato

I went to Affogato with a friend from Vietnam who is a new student here. Her name is " Viet girl". I have seen many good reviews on Urbanspoon.com and was keen on trying out their affogato (or italian coffee).
So we went on this sunny day and we both got to try the Affogato ($4.50 each). The Affogato, which we've never tried is a little bit bitter but with a bit of sugar its just right. The waiter said that we can pour the coffee over the ice cream and then wait for it to melt or you can eat it straightaway. Some of the other bloggers said that you get chocolate with it, but with ours we did not.
I also tried the French toast ($8.00 I think). It was sweet with just the right amount of maple syrup, but what I would have really liked was some strawberries and castor sugar with it. Viet girl had nothing, because she wasn't hungry.
The waiter was a bit friendly, but was a bit clumsy. He dropped the coffee menu on the floor after I went up and requested it. He obviously forgot to bring it when he got us our breakfast menus.
The interior is really cool, but the outside more so. I wanted to sit outside but Viet girl wanted inside, so we were inside.
All in all I recommend this place to you, if you don't mind the slow service. The place is not open for dinner but they are open for breakfast and lunch and you can study here. The atmosphere is quiet and cosy for students to study.

Campari House

I love the wooden spoon- isn't it cute!

I went to Campari House for lunch after I discovered that I forgot my lunch at home. Silly old me. But I am glad I went there, after this mornings horrible coffee service and terrible hot chocolate.
It is in lovely Hardware Lane where it is bustling full of people. It was lovely and sunny when I went there. Like most restaurants they are open until later in the evening and they have plenty of outdoor seating.The service here was unpretentious and charming. Quite a few tables were here. The lady there was lovely to me and at the end when I had my Entertainment card tole me that there was a wait for her manager to process it.
I had the $18 lunch special which included coffee as well as lunch. Here it included a choice of pizza or pasta and I chose the vegetarian ricotta with artichoke, mushrooms, capsicum and basil pizza. Here it was a big pizza on a wood tray, which reminded me of the country. The base and crust was really thin which I liked. Normally pizza costs around $16-$18 and a mocha costs around $3.50-$4 so this was pretty good value. What's even better, is that they took 25% off the total bill. I only had to pay $13.50.
The mocha was done really nicely and nice artwork on top. It was frothy and milky not like the hot chocolate that I bought this morning.
I would love to return this time with Miss Adriennely.

Gloria Jeans @ Melbourne Central

I went to the new Gloria Jeans in Melbourne Central. I know that I promised some of my friends that I wasn't going to but the open spaces really enticed me. The lovely jars of biscuits also enticed me to try this out.
It was a really rainy day and I felt like hot chocolate. I thought nothing makes me happier than a hot chocolate, so I went to this newly opened Gloria Jeans in Melbourne Central.
The guy working there looked a bit droopy and a little bit sad and lonely that he was working there alone. For the past few days I saw him working alone when I passed him on my way to RMIT.

I had of course, a hot chocolate and a yoyo.
My hot chocolate was $4.45. It tasted a little bit burnt, but not too sweet. The yoyo ($1.90) was a bit too crumbly but it melted in my mouth.
Maybe when things settled a bit I might come back. It only has been opened for a few days, maybe a week now.

I did go there again this time to try their mocha. It was free and this time they had more staff and the guy was actually really friendly. There was not too much foam on the mocha but it just ok.

Eat @the Verb Cafe, Newmarket

I went to The Verb cafe, after missing my train and then having to wait about 25 minutes for the next one, because the next one decided to come very late. ARGGGH!!!.  I didn't want to wait out in the cold alone. So I went to the Verb cafe on the corner and across the road from the train station (in zone 1). Also the number 57 tram stops at Newmarket station.
Here they have a lovely retro setting. A few years back it used to be a bookshop, but now it is just a cafe with a bookshelf full of books for people to read. It is a little organic cafe. It was recommended in the Age Good Cafe guide. I can tell by all the brands they have and the paper cups that they have. RUSU realfoods has these too.

They have indoor and outdoor seating, but I wasn't sure of the time so I got takeaway. I'm glad that I did, because the guy that was doing my chocolate was quite slow.
The lady there, looking like she was half asleep was friendly and knowledgeable. I think that she is a student. She was the one that recommended the honey walnut biscuit (about $2 I think). It was really lovely, but a bit too crumbly and a bit too moist. All the moisture went onto the takeaway bag.
The hot chocolate ($3.30 for a small and $3.80 for a medium) was really nice. It was frothy, unlike the coffee I got at Plantation. I forgot to take a picture of my hot chocolate.

Dining at Bali Bagus

Bali Bagus is a place that is commonly raved and reviewed by students. This place was packed tonight and I got there by 6pm.
There was one big group in there and a couple of smaller groups.
Bali Bagus is an Indonesian and Malaysian place, popular with Asian students and the like. It is on Franklin st in the city opposite Miss Libertines. Across the road, Miss Libertines was really noisy. But in here it is not too bad, and with the noise cancelling walls it is not too noisy. In fact I can only just hear the music and the conversations around me.

I had my Clumff card which I got at the start of the year when I bought my RMIT Asian Association Membership for $20. Here I can get a free drink with any main meal and today I got the ice milk tea. I have never tried this before but it is really popular in Malaysia and Indonesia. The tea tasted a little strange with milk, but was not too bad. It could have been a little bit sweeter and not so strong. I would have liked to have Cendol, but it was not free.
I had the Mi Goreng ($8.50) with fried egg (an extra $1.20). I got the fried egg on the recommendation of Eat and be merry for tomorrow we diet. The mi goreng was nice with the egg, but I would have liked a bigger and more plumper fried egg.
That's not to say that I didn't like the mi goreng. In fact I liked it so much that I finished the whole plate. What's more I liked the garlic chips. I have never tried this before, but they are really nice. I want to know where I can buy them. I think that it is only from the asian shops, but if you have some recommendations please let me know.
I would love to come here with the library group one day for dinner at one of their dinner meetings.
