I dined here as a guest hence this is a sponsored post. But all the thoughts are purely my own.
I got an email from the Mint Bar and Restaurant on Monday asking if I wanted to come and review their place.
The Mint Bar and Restaurant is a gastropub in the heart of the city. It is in an old building near the Law courts hence there were quite a few drunk people in there. These people had just finished work. They have a courtyard as well as indoor seating.
They have been opened ever since 2009. There are really positive reviews on Urbanspoon. Although the place is close to my uni I didn't have the chance to go seeing as it was at the higher priced end of the market.
So I came by last night at 6pm. The service was a little bit lacklustre. IE you had to order at the bar and at the end pay the bill at the bar. Oh and when I made the booking and showed at about 6pmish they said that you can take one of the tables that aren't reserved. Usually when a place is reserved the waiter would show me to my table.
They have a limited food menu. Like Honey they are more focused on drinks rather than food. Each day of the week there is a $12 food and drink special.
But seeing as I had $50 to spend (courtesy of the The Mint Bar and Restaurant) I thought I'd go for some of the more expensive stuff.
To start off with I had pineapple juice that was straight from the bottle for $4.50 per glass. For that price I'd thought that it would be freshly made. I would normally go for lemonade but given the fact that I was going somewhere else I thought that this is a better option.
And then I had the pretzel with butter and beer sauce ($3.50 for two small pretzels and lovely butter and beer sauce).
For mains I had salmon with orzo and olives ($23.50). Orzo is a type of Italian pasta which is like risotto but its longer. There was currents in the dish which gave it a nice sweet texture to off balance the saltiness of the olives. The fish was very fresh though.
For that price I would have liked a little bit of bread on the side, but other than that it is all good.
I would love to come back and try out their $12 specials one day, as I didn't know that they have these. This is a great place if you love a good drink and good food. They don't have a lot of food, but they have heaps of drinks.
