SugarBun

As part of our At home and Abroad series.

This is a sponsored post but all of our comments are what we thought of the food and the service.

Sugarbun is Melbourne's newest Malaysian restaurant in Russell st. They had just been opened for six days when the team was invited. Hence everything was brand new.

They have an open kitchen. I could see a lot of chefs in there, training hard. So there are bound to be mistakes on the way.

The bathrooms are upstairs and behind the lift.

Their clientele is mainly students as their prices are really cheap. Last night I saw a few Asians in there.

But the wait staff were really friendly and attentitive and they were happy to take on feedback about the burger. But some of the waitstaff don't have the best English skills.

I had the Sarawak burger with French fries ($9) and the daily special drink of lemon and barley ($3.80). The french fries were just ordinary like the ones at McDonalds.

The fish burger although looks great, was just ordinary. It didn't have enough sauce on there and the fish fillet was too dry. Perhaps it was a little bit overcooked? The fish fillet is supposed to be one of their signature dishes.

But I loved the coleslaw and the cucumbers though. Oh and I couldn't get enough of the chilli sauce.

The drink however was good for that price. Not too sweet and not too sour. Oh and I loved the barley pearls. Yummy.

I can't wait to try their laksa though. I hope Meld Magazine will review the place in due course.

I hope that in due time things can improve and more people will try the place. I also hope for their sake that they won't go out of business.
