10 easy ways for students to save money by Katherine

Lets face it education is expensive so here are some ways to save money.

1) Don't apply for a credit card unless you really have to. If you do apply make sure that understand the terms and conditions and that you can repay the money in a timely manner. If you pay late, you might have to pay interest or a late fee.

2) Stay at home- instead why not invite your friends for a potluck dinner where everyone brings a plate of food. You can create plates of food for under $10.

3) Buy machine washable clothes and clothes that are good for winter. IE. thick jumpers and a parka. Dry Cleaning in Melbourne can be very expensive. But if you need to buy some special clothes don't wear it a lot.

4) Go vintage/secondhand as they are cheaper, sometimes for free. There are a few op shops in Melbourne.

5) Don't buy on impulse- buy only what you need. Otherwise you are wasting money.

6) If you need it, try and buy it on special. You'll find that you'll save lots in the long run.

7) Give up bad habits such as having coffee all the time outside. Sally used to do that a lot when she first came here. We also did that a lot when we started writing this blog. But now we find that going out for coffee and brunch costs us at least $20 per visit, not to mention that we went out four times a week. Hence it equals to $80 per week and then per year its $4160. Now we only just go out once a week and then we save about $3120.

8) Utilize council services such as libraries as they are free for everyone. No more renting or buying movies for a price. Also you can participate in community activities for free

9) If you aint got it, don't spend it. You don't have to spend as much as your friends do.

10)Try and win a few free double passes if you can, as going to see movies can be very expensive. Or otherwise you can buy movie screen savers for your favorite cinema at your university's student union or bookshop.
