Plagiarism at RMIT is not tollerated under any circumstances. My friend was once caught out with plagiarism and he was expelled from the Uni.
There are really severe penalties for this such as exclusion and expulsion from the RMIT or any other uni.
It can include:
* Using writing services
* getting someone to write the assignment for you
* Cheating in exams
* Referencing incorrectly
* Copying large amounts of text without acknowledgement
etc
How do lecturers know?
They can find out in many ways:
* By reading the text themselves
* By Turnitin
* By reading someone else work.
* When you complete another assesment and you get many things wrong that's how they know.
So what can I do to avoid plagiarism?
* Ask for help if you don't understand something. Be up front about it
* Form a study group and get them to proofread your assessment
* Use the study and learning center
* Don't leave your assignment until the last minute. Do it early.
But what really constitutes plagiarism says students? But what if Turnitin fails to work for us? What now?
It is a widespread problem and some universities does not use a text matching software but RMIT does called Turnitin. But some of the plagiarism courses go unreported and so students don't learn from their mistake. The use of writing services is becoming more and popular.
