I travel very frequently hence a pass is better for me. MYKI monthly passes are at $112 per month for zone 1 that is. A little bit more for zones 1 and 2. But for zone 1 it works out to be $4 a day with unlimited travel within zone 1. A day pass within that zone is $6.56. That means that I can go wherever I want pretty much.
This is great for those that love to travel frequently. You can buy weeklies, monthlies and yearlies for a flat rate and never have to worry too much about overcharging.
But its a good idea to have some Myki money on there just in case you need to go somewhere unexpected. $30 is more than enough. a 2 hour zone 2 is about $2.28
A two hour zone 1 is $3.28 (full fare that is as International students are not eligible for concession in Melbourne).
For those that travel less frequently ie just two days a week MYKI money is much better. $50 lasts about two months.
Vline still have paper tickets as the system is not fully installed in the country yet. But it will be by the end of the year. For now you'll just have to stick to paper tickets.
