ILLegal work and what happens next

Recently I just heard a few stories from students about them working illegally. They work as waiting staff in Melbourne's most undesirable places for a pittance. They work for $7-$8 and are always demanded to work up to 40 hours a week, each week for 13 weeks. My friends are undergraduates who have to study hard and pass all of their subjects. This last semester their work has affected their studies and now they are "At risk". They are also afraid to be kicked out of the country.

This happens to so many students working in undesirable places such as 7-11. 7-11 is a convenience store that charges premiums for their goods but pay their workers so little. They also require that workers work alone in the dark, gloomy hours of the night with little or no security. Many times I have heard reports on them being beaten and being forced to work many hours over their 20 hour per week limit.

If students are caught working over the 20 hour limit they may be forced to go home. Employers will be prosecuted. The public can report the student if they think that the student is overstaying their visa.
