Clean Living month

As part of Bupa's best blog competition for 2015

This month RNIS took on a new challenge- the clean eating month. With that they had to have mostly vegetarian, fish and egg based meals. They could have fruit, nuts, soy milk, tofu and they had to limit their sugar and meat intake to just a few times a week. We talk about this challenge and why it is good for you.

Over the winter period, the RNIS bloggers had put on way too much weight and it was by 10 kgs. They didn't eat much vegetables. They ate a lot of meats and not much fish. They also had two courses for lunch some of which had a lot of calories.

In the Spring/Summer period they wanted to do the Clean living month to lose some of that weight.
By the end they were a little bit cleaner.

The advantages
Their faces were cleaner and they had a lot more energy to do the things that they wanted. They also learned about calories and how much each thing was worth. They also learnt about making better food choices for themselves.

The bloggers learned about the different food swaps and they also took away the fact that it is ok to have salad for dinner.

The disadvantages
Choosing vegetarian meals and planning ahead was a challenge. halfway through one of them of threw up and had nausea when they had their period as they weren't used to all the veg and limited carbs.

They also had a few days where they forgot about their plan and had sugars etc.

It was hard seeing that all the meat eaters were eating meat and we wanted meat when we knew we had a limit. But they stuck to their guns and still didn't lose the weight, but felt cleaner.

But what they learnt was that junk food has lots of calories and they learnt that fruits have about 40-110 cals per piece. They also learnt that soy milk was better for them. In fact a lot of cafes offer soy milk as an alternative to full cream and they learnt to embrace that both at the Couch and elsewhere.

The bloggers wanted to keep going as they had learnt so much and you can do this too. You just need a little motivation to get you started. So what are you waiting for? Start today, don't wait for tomorrow.
