M Yong Tofu, used to be called the The Grand Tofu

M Yong Tofu is a cheap eat for students.

At a busy lunchtime it was packed with lots of VU students all wanting a cheap feed before their exams at the Showgrounds (which btw costs $10 to park there).

It is an easy tram ride from the Showgrounds to get there and back (zone 1).

The service was good. My waitress was really friendly and down to earth. She cracked a few jokes with the male waiter who was also friendly. He was also attentive as well.

The bathrooms are out the back.

It is cash only, but there is an atm in Newmarket plaza.

Their specialty Yong tofu is now $10.50 ( with an extra $1.40 per piece) was great. You get to choose six items from their bain marie and the soup that you want, plus the noodles. For those that love spicy try the Tom Yum soup. I got this and gee it was very spicy. It so spicy that I was coughing so much at the end.

Oh and you will have a bit of trouble finishing the soup in the end. Its better to share the soup if you have a small appetite

If you get this do also get a drink and roti to help you cope with the spiciness of it all. I got the plain roti for $3.80 and it was pretty flaky but a bit burnt.

The iced lemon tea ($3.80) was sweet but authentic.

Students do come here on a cold winters day for some warm (and great Yong Tofu) and great service
