Money saving 1/4- Food and drink

Students you need food to survive living in Melbourne. This is the first part of our money saving guide.
Each week we will bring you a part of the money saving guide as students can't always spend heaps and heaps of money

Grocery shopping
* Bulk buy if you can- it saves a lot of money.
* Don't shop hungry- write a list. Then that way you'll save heaps of money on not buying things that you don't need.
* Water is free and there are lots of fountains on campus. Just bring your own water bottle.
*  Look out for free food on campus- they are bound to happen once or twice a week.
* Do a big cook up on Sunday if you can and freeze the meals for during the week
* Love gardening? Then why not start your own veggie patch? It is easy to start one and you'll save lots of money over the years as you'll have some fresh produce from your patch. Just head on down to your friendly nursery and ask for advice.

Going out
* If you work in a cafe, restaurant or in media you may be entitled to free meals.
* Share the entree and the dessert with a friend and you'll both save money
* Look out for Groupon offers as many of them have 50% off the total bills
* Did you know that you can use your student card everywhere? Well you can
* Check out Urbanspoon.com for all the great eateries in your area and the really bad ones.
*  Use your free Keepcup when you order take away coffee in a cafe and you might just save yourself a little bit of money
* Use coupons if you can as they too have buy one get one free. If you buy the Entertainment book you'll find that there are lots of buy one get one frees.

Hope these hints help. Look out for the second part which will come next week. Do you have any hints on saving money on food or where to buy discounted food? If so do drop us a line.
