Australia the most expensive place to study in

According to the Age and CISA, Australia is the most expensive place to study in.

An Australia degree costs $42,245, ahead of the US on $39,156 and Britain on $33,256, according to a report by the bank HSBC. That is living and tuition fees combined.

In Victoria International students don't get concession for public transport.

Many parents are footing the bill to send their students to Australia to study. Some have even sold their house to send their children to Australia whilst others have done a fundraiser.

A student from China says that while his parents fund his study, they had to sell their house to fund his $40000 a year costs in Australia.

In Australia many lectures have up to 600 students in one class and in tutorials there is up to 30-40 students per class. Hence there is not much time for each individual student. Student Unions want the class sizes to be capped, but universities only just want the money.

It is hard for International students to find a decent job with the 20 hour per week (40 hours per fortnight rule) that pays well. Hence most students settle for the $9 per hour jobs (cash in hand that is).

On top of that getting a working visa after study is hard. But CISA and others will continue to fight for this.

But if the Locals vote for a fairer government then getting a visa might not be so difficult after all.

With the cuts to TAFE going ahead many students will have to fork out a lot more money if they want a decent education and Australia's reputation  will suffer.
