1) Depression- some students get it more than others. It is normal to have a little bit of depression as you are away from home and having to deal with all sorts of things whilst here. About 80% of students just have a little bit of depression whilst 20% of students (mainly females have this) which impacts on their study.
2) Anxiety- most of the first year students particualrly ones from Asian countries such as China and India feels a little bit anxious. Some of the Japanese also feels like this. Some of the lecturers at RMIT understand this feeling and are understanding towards students. But RMIT doesn't offer much training in terms of dealing with international students in which they should. ISIS and some of the student services aren't of much use to the students.
3) Loniliness and isolation- most students would feel this at some point whether it is easy on or later on in their program. But don't worry there is help at hand.
4) Frustration- this is more so for the students who learns English as a second language and doesn't speak it so well. These are the ones that mainly mixes in with their own group of people and not with the locals.
5) Homesickness- this feeling is being caused by being far away from family and not being able to see them all the time. The same goes for your friends back home. But you can make plenty of new ones whilst you are here
Some services that you could use which are online are:
* Lifeline- it is free for all to use
*Beyond blue- they can give some advice on curing depression
* Talk to your parents on Skype about how you are feeling. Its better to tell them about how life in Melbourne is treating you as it is different for everyone. They might be able to assist you.
