These are the ten most popular things that we love to do. When you are here you should make sure that you do some of these things.
1) Drink coffee- did you know that Melbourne has a wide range of places, especially in the CBD. If you have Facebook or twitter you should join “top Melbourne restaurants” group as they discuss many restaurants and cafes. Some coffee places are perfect and others are not.
2) Walk their dogs- unlike some Asian countries lots of Melbournians like to walk their dogs in the parks and on the streets. If you go walking you’ll see many cute dogs out in the street. We love our Labrador and Golden Retriever dogs.
3) Eat fine food- Melbourne has a whole range of fine food places, e.g. Italian food by the bay. They even have a good food and wine festival and a TASTE of Melbourne festival every year which lots of people attend.
4) Go to the markets- there are lots of weekend markets on every weekend. These include the Preston market, the Queen Victoria market, Footscray market and the South Melbourne market. There are some harvest markets in the country, so if you have time, you should go and explore the countryside.
5) Catch up with friends over the weekend- we love to have brunches with our friends. We like to go and see movies, watch footy etc, with our friends and family as we hardly ever have time to see them during the week. The footy is on every weekend during the winter months
6) Go to art exhibitions- Melbourne hosts a few art exhibitions every year in the national art gallery. Some of them are free for students to see and others cost money for students to see. But you can pay concession price to see them and it’s a lot cheaper. http://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/
7) Shopping- each year we love to shop at discount places such as Harbour town, where everything is up to 70% off. Another place we like to shop is at Bridge rd in Richmond, where everything is cheap too. But nowadays we are being very tight on money and what we spend.
8) See the Myer Christmas Windows every year- each Christmas Myer puts on a different theme and people love to flock to their windows. Myer also has a Christmas parade in the middle of November, which is free to watch from the Bourke St mall.
9) Go to wineries- many regional towns have local wineries which hosts tastings from time to time, so if you have the time and love wine, why not go and visit the wineries? You can find out more information about them by visiting the visitor centre in Federation Square.
10) Go cycling around the bay- Melburnians like to cycle around docklands, harbour esplanade, Brighton and St Kilda where there are lovely bays and beaches. You can rent a bike from one of the many bike places in Melbourne for a low price.
