Course Guides

RMIT calls their subjects , "courses". Each semester you will get given a course guide as to what to expect for the rest of the semester. We explain what a course guide is.

So what is a course guide?
It is a book that tell you what assignments you'll get, the books you need, the unit outline and all sorts of other things that are related to your course.

Most lecturers and tutors will give them out in the first lectures or at Orientation. But sometimes they'll only tell you that it is available online.

What sort of things does it include?
It includes:
* Assessment outlines and due dates
* Information about special consideration should you need it
* The teaching staff's contact details. If you need help you can ask them. Most of the academics at RMIT are helpful and approachable.
* Information about the course
* The textbook list.

Am I expected to read it?
The answer is yes. Students that don't read the course guide generally fail a unit (course). It is good to refer to it during the semester just in case if you think that the lecturer has marked unfairly for one of your assessments. You can appeal a mark if you think its unfair.
You can use it to help you revise for your exams/tests as what will asked on the exam is covered in your course guide and your lecture notes.

But what if I don't like the course for some reason, what next?
Can I change it?

The answer is yes, so long as it is before the census date. Talk to your program coordinator, International student adviser about changing course before you do as there are some implications such as changing the visa.

Note: International students must for visa purposes be enrolled in four courses each semester.

Important: Make sure that you read the course guide each semester
