A warning to all International students
There are people posing to be departmental officers all asking for money because you have supposedly breached your visa conditions when you havent. They hand you a notice saying that you have breached your visa conditions and issue students a fake fine. These scammers ask you to transfer money to them overseas.
The Department of Immigration has issued the warning over Facebook and media and says that many students have been the target of this scam.
“Anyone contacted by people seeking such payments should refuse to pay, and should report the incident to police”, a DIAC spokesman says.
You can also contact the Immigration Dob-In Line on 1800 009 623.
