Madame Kwan's is a Malaysian place which took over from the Straits of Malacca. And when it was there was a new menu which is the same as the ones in the city. The prices are now the same as the ones in the city. I remembered reading the old posts which said that it was quite cheap.
The place is near the train station.
Here at 6pm they were not busy, but after I left they became busy with the local Chinese and Malaysians. The other places inn Box Hill seemed busier at 6pm.
They are cash only which left me wondering whether or not the workers were paid the right amount of money. Of course on the weekend it is double.
Like Papparich you order only on paper and you give it to the wait staff. THis sucks as you can't talk to them and they can't practice their English.
I had Madam Kwan's signature Mee Goreng ($11.90 for a huge portion) and plain roti for $6.90. Who would charge $6.90 for one piece without the sauce. Other places like Roti Road charge $4 per piece and theirs was fluffy. This was not. It had the right amount of oiliness, but no fluffiness.
The mee goreng came without meat which is what I asked for, but where were the prawns and the seafood? I had expected some seeing as that was in the picture. And they never bothered to ask the customer. I did however like the wok hei in there.
The dessert menu was limited. I would have liked to see the roti telur and some Kuai featured on the menu.
Rating: 13/20- a bit of work still needs to be done to refine the menu and put in some other Malaysian favorites such as telur and other different types of roti and more vegetarian meals. Many vegos might find that the restaurant does not cater to them upon first glance of the menu.
More work needs to also be done on how staff treat their customers. Not one smiled at me and food did take a while to come.
