Hophaus revisited

Hophaus is a German bar in which you may remember that we went there for their birthday party last year. Their food and drinks were really good but expensive.

Well it seems that we had our hands on the Entertainment book. With the 25% discount we had $1 drinks and a very filling lunch. They have $20 Arbiter lunch specials but our deal was not valid then. It should have been valid seeing as this is an everyday deal and most people would get a bit confused.

They seemed understaffed. There was only one waitress and my food was waiting on the pass for a while. But the lady that served me was really lovely and she was very friendly.

But anyway we felt like having Bratwurst and beer since German bier brings out the best in German food. Here this was served in a 300 ml glass and it was really strong in taste. It had this strong apple and winey taste and smell. A smell which brought out the best in the bratwurst. Here the bratwurst was yum and the brioche roll was sweet but not too sweet. It was not dry like someone else said on Zomato.

The french fries were just ordinary.

Rating: 14/20- good food let down by the slow service. Do here for your traditional German fare

Hophaus with the Plus ones

RNIS was invited by the Plus ones to share food. However they bought their own drink.

It was Hophaus's 1st birthday and there was free bier at their lively bar until it ran out. The bar was such a lively place and the food was great.

The place is open and there were lots of people celebrating their one year.

I had come for drinks but had some of the chips and the bitterballen which was meatballs and it was yummy. The chips were French fries and they were hugely addictive.

The music was very lively though and there was lots of romping. There are two sides to the bar.

Next time when I am here I would love to try their schnitzels and hot dogs and maybe down a beer or two.

 

Good Beer Week at the Euro

RNIS was invited by the Euro to sample their beers and pizzas and did not have to pay.

The European Bier café is an old beer café run by Sherrie who is really friendly. We met her both at Mundo Lingo and at this event and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. About 30 other people came to this event and we met up with the two Scottish tourists who love beer as much as Melbourne does.

Budweiser 

Just last year they introduced a pizzeria which is enjoyed by many. Their pizzas there range from $7-$12.

This session was run by a beer aficondo called Julie who is from Adelaide.

Mozerella

We tried four pizzas with four beers. Normally it is about $35 and on top of this we added a garlic pizza. We loved the garlic pizza. We also loved the vegetarian and margarita pizza. The margarita pizza had buffalo cheese which was nice for a change. You don't see that in many pizzas.

We also learnt the etiquette of beer drinking and cheering which is quite common in Australia. All the beers that we tried tonight were from Germany. The Bud tasted a lot like apple and it was the first one up.

The next two didn't have much taste, but the last one tasted like licorice.

Rating: 18/20- I shall be back and many thanks to Sherrie for the invite.

Munich Brauhaus

 RNIS was invited to Munich Brauhaus on their opening night

Munich Brauhaus is in South Wharf and is a stones throw away from the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. It is a large German bier Hall which is very lively every night of the week. They also claim to celebrate "Oktoberfest" 365 days a year which I thought was false.

But in actual fact its true. They have these large bier steins and an actual bier hall.

I didn't know about this place until I saw all the ads at Etihad Stadium. And then I researched it and found that there was beer and pretzels and seafood dishes.
I was drawn in by the advertising and the menus and the fact that there is now a German place in the dead quiet South Wharf.

The entertainment here was AMAAZZZZZZZZZZING. Here they had songs and the traditional bier tapping. Everyone loved their bier here and the atmosphere was just lively. In fact I think I saw the World Loves Melbourne bloggers here.

Thinking that it would be too busy at around 6-7pmish we'd thought we'd come later at 7:30pm when things died down a bit. The place was still packed and some people were waiting for about an hour for their food. Flagging the waitress was hard and there was no set menus to peruse.

The pretzel was good. Not as big as the one in Hofbrauhaus but still good. It was warm and moist and very salty like the way how it should be.

Vegetarians need not be disappointed as there are a few things on the menu which are vegetarian. In fact there is a whole section just for them.

The mussels were great but very small. It is one of their signature dishes. At $33 I expected them to be a bit bigger, but still at 8pm this size was perfect. If I'd come any earlier I'd want big. And the chips were fantastic in their little bucket.

The strudel (I think it was $12?) was the right size for a 8:30pm dessert. It was moist and freshly made. I also loved the little touch of Chantily cream on the side

17/20- Great dishes and great entertainment at ze bier hall.

They should be on the Dimmi site and maybe offer an Entertainment book discount. Too bad that South Wharf is way too quiet during the mid week.
