Tank Fish and Chippery in Emporium

Tank Fish and Chippery are a place in Carlton which has opened a second store in Emporium. Here they are only opened for lunch except for Thursday and Friday where they open for dinner.

I have been there twice. Both times were to order fried food for lunch or dinner. Here they have the $12 fish and chip special for lunch. Only hankering for this, I ordered that. Other people ordered sweet drinks etc.

You order and you pay at the counter and then you wait about five mins for your order to be made. They are in a food court hence there is not a lot of seating. The fish and chips are freshly cooked. And they had that nice powdering of salt. What's also lovely is that parsley which gives the dish a lovely crunch.

Oh and for those that want healthy there is the option of grilled fish and salad.

Do come by for your Omega 3 and healthy fats.

Thomas Findlay

Thomas Findlay is a fish and chip shop in the heart of the city on Elizabeth st. Here they serve gourmet fish and chip cones for $10. But I bought a Scoopon for $6 where it also included a drink. But because I am giving up sugar for a month I could not have the canned varieties. I gave mine to a homeless person as there are so many of them on Flinders st. Oh yeah and I ordered a potato cake and gave mine away to someone homeless.

The place is really small and there is not much seating anywhere so people just took away.
The lady there that served me was alright although she did seem a little bit tired.

The tempura fish was heavily battered but still good. The chips were really nice.

Do support the Salvation Army and you can donate here. They do a wonderful job of supporting the homeless.

Beluga

Its a weird name for a fish and chip shop but I like this name. This fish shop although opened for eight years popped up recently when I went past it from the botanical gardens to the station. So I went after my run one day for dinner.

This is a small fish shop nestled in a street where there are many fine dining places.

They were really busy on Saturday night with their regulars who love footy as much as I do. Here we talked about hawthorn.
I was served by an older lady and her young daughter. The older lady didn't smile a bit but she was friendly towards her regulars. The older guy (her husband) liked everyone including me from the west side. Which is why I have not known about this fish shop until recently.

I had their regular fish pack for one which included the South Melbourne dim sim, a piece of fish (usually the fish of the day), a whole mound of chips and a potato cake. All for $10.50. They also do salad and fish. The fish of the day was a John dory and it was really fresh.

My dish did take a while to come though

The chips I really struggled to finish this. There were just so many of them. Now I am not a meat eater and I don't like dim sims a lot so I left this aside.

The potato cake was good though. It was a good thing that they did not put a lot of salt on my dish as I hate eating too much salt.

Rating: 13/20- comfort food.  I wonder why many other bloggers have not discovered this place. Please Beluga, please invite them around.

Snippet: Captain and Co Fish Bar

Captain and Co fish bar is a new place in Brighton. Here they focus on good health in terms of salad and fresh fish. Here they use local seafood and fresh fish and the service was very quick. They were also friendly. Here I was served by a very friendly lady who knows her seafood well.
Healthy Fish and Chips

Here I had the grilled salmon as well as the snack sized chips.  The coucous salad was also quite nice not too overdressed. The grilled salmon was small but this is good for a 7:30pm meal after a run. The potato cakes and the bowl of chips looked good on the other table.

Do come here for your fresh fish and chips near the railway station.
