Captain Melville is a posh gastropub on Franklin st where Miss Libertine's used to be. Miss Libertines used to be a dark messy hole in which people drank and got wasted in the early hours.
It is no more. In fact this is more like a refined gastropub serving Australian classics and drinks and being healthy.
I went there with Meld Magazine for their Industry networking gathering.
The waitress at the bar was a little bit surly and the staff were hip. As for the delivery of the food there was no problems as we were outside. But however the toilets were a little hard to find as its in the back room. People had to ask staff where they were.
The TV was a little bit fuzzy though. Perhaps they should get that replaced.
But the food with the exception of the oyster ($3.50) is amazing. The oyster was a little bit hard to eat as almost all the meat stuck to the shell. Perhaps it needs a little more time thawing out.
The croquettes were lovely with the Australian bush tomato sauce. I'm not normally a fan of tomato sauce but this was good.
The routolos ($25 for a tiny plate) were great and they had lots of mushroomy goodness on top and lots of ricotta and spinach inside. Although I wish there were three or four of them, two doesn't seem like enough.

Oh well until next time. I hope that they do stay around as I heard that their burger is amazing and their chips looked amazing. And their drinks are good too.
