Tanabata workshop and party in Melbourne

RNIS was invited as a guest to the Tanabata workshops and party

Tanabata is the Japanese star festival and it is between July and August depending on the Lunar year. The story of Tanabata was quite interesting as it was set back by about 1200 years ago in Japan. It is a story where a girl (Princess) made lots and lots of lovely cloth but couldn't find the love of her life until one day she met star and they fell in love. They married and her father forbade her to see Star again until she continued working on her cloths. A year later they met again and they would continue to do so once a year.

RNIS also helped to make the decorations which were free as they had heaps of paper at home. Making the decorations was fun and stress free.

Chains
RNIS used paper, glue and scissors. They cut the paper into small strips and then looped them. They then used the glue to join the ends.

Wish writing

For this one RNIS used a brush and paper and wrote their wishes for a well paid job amongst other things. The Japanese characters were really tricky.

Lanterns
Making the lanterns was easy. All we did was cut the paper into half and then we made holes.

The  party itself
This was really fun and it was a chance to burn our wishes. There wasn't a whole lot of food as this was a celebration. This was a great night

Many thanks to RMIT Japan Club for the invite as I got a lot out of this.
