Shoya is a upmarket high priced end of the restaurant, which means good food for top dollar.
It is a Japanese restaurant with the finest sashimi and sushi. Here it is fun to watch the sushi chef torch the sashimi and make sushi. So you'll know that you'll have the freshest sushi.
The service is attentive and friendly. But the sushi chef didn't look so happy to talk to their customers. He was just busy working away there
I went there at lunchtime for their lunch sets- their Kaisen Chirashi set ($24.80). Here it included three appetizers, Chirashi and udon. The mini udon was really nice, but I couldn't finish it. Here I loved the broth and slurpy noodles.
The Chirashi was a bit of a let down. First of all the rice was lukewarm when it should be cold. Secondly even though the chef filleted the fish there were still a few tiny bones in there. I would have loved to see a bit more greenery, some pickles and other things in there.
The appetizers were great. I loved the cold tofu and the fish. The Agedashi tofu had a different taste as they had mixed in all the vegetables in with the tofu. But its one that I liked.
Verdict: I would only come for dinner and try their udon with tempura and Agedashi tofu. And maybe their sashimi platter. It is only for a special occasion and not for everyday eating.
