" I was born to sing opera. I got bullied and teased by my classmates", quote from Paul Potts in the movie.
I was invited to a film screening last week at Hoyts as part of the Shopping day. Hence this is a sponsored post.
This film has won three awards:
From the director that brought you The Devil wears Prada this is a must watch film. This story is an inspirational true story about a guy called Paul Potts. It started when Paul was nine and singing in a church choir at Christmas time.
It stars James Corbin and best British actress Julie Walters.
The story moves on to talk about the rest of his life how he won Britain's got talent and got to sing for the Queen. He has sold over 2 million records worldwide and reached number 1 in many countries.
He went through many rough patches to get to his dream such as being bullied by his classmates, his rejection from the school in Venice (where he sang for Pavarotti) and his family (especially his father who wants him to work in the mines). Nobody wanted to give him a fair chance.
He had a girlfriend who supported him though and they got married.
Until one day that is. One day when he sung so well on Britains got talent. "You have an incredible voice" said Simon Cowell. The message of the movie is to believe in yourself and never give up when the going get tough. And that's what Paul Potts did to get his dream.
The story has a lovely ending to it of Paul and his girlfriend being in Venice and having fun.
The film is now showing for two weeks as part of the British film festival at selected cinemas. It is also showing at Hoyts for a limited period of time. Do go and see this inspirational and moving story.
