Entertainment in Melbourne can be quite expensive so here are some ideas for entertainment.
1) If you are working in the Media Industry just like we are you might get a few invitations to try stuff for free. Don't be afraid to, but you do have to write something good about the business and by the due date (which you will have negotiated with that business).
2) Try and buy movie tickets from your Student Union on campus. The same goes for other stuff too like boat cruises and things as they are quite cheap. A movie ticket there costs like $7-$12 where as at the normal cinemas its $15-$20
3) A lot of student clubs offer a lot of free events for students so it is worthwhile joining a club or two.
4) Use your student card- most places have discounted entry for students.
5) Try to have parties at home rather than going out to an expensive bar/club and getting smashed. Alcohol is about $10 a bottle at the supermarket and chips and dips are under $10. No need to pay the entry fee.
As for music you can connect your iPod to the speakers. You can usually download the music from the iTunes store for cheap.
Sometimes if you sign up to some group buying sites such as Groupon, they usually do have some cheap entertainment bundles.
