Guzman Y Gomez is a Mexican fast food chain, but in a healthy way.
I was invited their opening day by a Facebook friend of mine, Nathaniel Stockley. This is their fourth store in Melbourne.
At 1:15pm the place was packed full of people. The other shops weren't so happy that they weren't getting as many people.
The place is in a tiny little food court outside ANZ Headquarters hence all the corporates came. The line was full of very grumpy corporates having to wait in that line which snaked all the way out the door. But the line moved every five minutes. Whilst waiting in line I sampled some of their corn chips and a little bit of their homemade guacamole. It was delish. Some people were grumpy that they weren't getting any.
The place is gluten free. You can have a naked (in the bowl without the tortilla) burrito.
I had the usual vegetarian burrito, this time without the guacamole. There was a WHOLE HEAP of white rice in there which was very unusual for a burrito. Normally it has black rice. This is the Australian white rice which I generally hate in burritos. It was also strange that they didn't include a lot of black beans in there. But what I liked was the tortilla itself. It was soft and freshly made. I also liked the vegetables and the cheese. There was the right amount of cheese in there (you can choose no cheese if you can't have dairy). Oh and for those that complain about not enough spiciness you can help yourself to some jalepinos, salsa and onions. And Habenero sauce.
The burritos were meant to be not too spicy for those that don't like spiciness.
Still we'll wait and see how it all goes. I wouldn't be rushing back in a hurry as I don't study nearby. But if I'm at Kino and in the mood for some proper fast, filling food then this might be it. I hope MELD writes a review about the Swanston branch.
