What do you think? Are universities going too easy on International students?
In the past years universities have been trying to boost their revenue and have been setting really low IELTS standards. Hence students have not been adequately prepared for university in Australia. Students come from Asia mainly, but there are some from Europe and Africa. Most of them study business courses in Melbourne.
RMIT is toughening up on their students based on what happened in 2010. In 2010 a student was caught cheating in exams based on a report by the Ombudsman. Also the Ombudsman in 2011 denounced it for the same thing.
At RMIT students hand things in on Blackboard via the digital dropbox. Handing things in via the digital dropbox was an easy way for students to cheat or get someone else to do their assignment for them. I liked it the old paper way where you had to sign the cover sheet to hand in the assignment.
But to what extent can RMIT be tough? And other universities for that matter?
Last year a student at Deakin was caught for cheating.
Last August the Ombudsman according to Meld had denounced Swinburne for this.
A lot of Universities these days are using Blackboard to engage with their students. But to what extent should Blackboard be used? Blackboard is an online learning system that universities use to post work and for students to collaborate with one another.
The University of Melbourne has kept the same way of marking for decades. That is to mark everyone fairly like it should be.
Do you think that universities are soft marking their students? Have your say below.
