RNIS was invited to the restaurant (due to Paypal's fault of not processing the monies. Originally we were going to pay).
Movida is a Spanish restaurant in the heart of city. Whilst they are known for their paella we had other tapas and a five course dinner begun. We had been to their stall before in Taste of Melbourne and enjoyed their hearty stew so we were keen to see how this would fair. They are only a stones throw away from Southern Cross
Although it was busy we were seated at the bar we saw lots of action going on and making exciting drinks for people.
We started off with a tortilla wedge ($5.50 for a huge slice full of potatoes, cheese and onions). It was yum and all the flavours danced on our tongues.
The complimentary bread was dense and I wished that there was a little bit more oil for us to dip the chewy bread into.
We were going to order the Pulpo salad but when we saw the croquettas ($7 for 4) on the menu we just had to have them. The octopus was quite fresh and the croquettas were full of flavour. So much so that we didn't need sauce.
The bomba ball ($4.80 for one big one) was equally just as good. We loved the aioli on top. It was very addictive and all the flavours played on the tongue.
The spanner crab on top of the piklet ($7 each for one small one) was a little bit disappointing. Whilst the spanner crab was fresh and moist, the piklet was a little bit dry and a tad too sweet for us.
We were getting full but we just could not live without a plate of veg ($16.5). The plate looked smallish when it came to the table but it was just the right size. And actually very moreish. We loved the balsamic vinegar as it made the vegetables very tasty and added some sweetness to the dish. Our plate of veg came with eggplant, pumpkin, olives, tomatoes, carrots and capsicum.
Rating: 18/20. Thanks very much for having us. Do come and visit this restaurant whenever you are in Melbourne even if it is just for a drink. They are just as good as their stall at the Taste of Melbourne.
