RNIS was invited by Zomato and did not have to pay. They also invited Happy Leandro along for the fun.
Well lets just say that Leandro was dragged into this (pun intended) by RNIS. Leandro lived really close so for him getting to Carnegie was easy. But for us that was a different story. We had to get on to a peak hour train at Flinders and then change trains at Caulfield- all The Glen Waverley line passengers were getting off to take their bus back to Glen Waveley due to rail improvement works. So we were very late by half an hour due to that and getting lost. We ended up on the wrong side of Koornang road by mistake.
So it was just a little bit after 7pm when we got there and the restaurant for a Friday was half full. That's not to say that it didn't get busy, because it did. There were mainly Caucasians in there.
Service wise it was a bit of hit and miss. But other than that it was all fine.
The char kuey teow ($14.90) was already at the table when we arrived and it was darn good. It had that smoky wok hei to it as well as lots of vegetables.
Leandro had their nasi lemak ($14.90) and loved it. I loved the coconut rice and the egg. The coconut rice was fluffy and the egg was just gorgeous.
The prawn dumplings were just fine at $8.80 for four. We shared and we liked. The skin was translucent which is always good for this sort of thing.
The roti was fluffy and at $4 it was worth it.
We had dessert and Leandro ordered two. We had the lychee with ice cream and Leandro ordered sago and mango pudding. That boy eats a lot. We liked the lychee with ice cream. The lychee brought out the best in the dessert making it not too sweet.
Rating: 17/20- lovely. Do come to this lovely Malaysian restaurant in Carnegie if you study at Monash or are close by.
Thanks Zomato for the lovely invite and I hope to see you again soon.
