RNIS was invited to this restaurant by Dimmi and did not have to pay
Acland st Cantina is a popular Mexican street food eatery for all to enjoy. It is in the beachy town of St Kilda which is popular with tourists and locals alike. It is near the quiet st of Canterbury road where all the trams go past.
They do a busy night trade and are not opened during the day. They also have a bottle shop right next door for those that are looking for the booze.
Here they do tequilas as well as food and they do have a huge wine and cocktail list.
We weren't looking for the booze but rather for their food which 20 bloggers said was really good. The blog that I can remember is Sarah Cooks and she has a lovely review. All the bloggers said that the queasidilla, corn and the pumpkin salsa were good. They also said that the tacos were great.
They were short staffed that night but I forgive them. They did forget my water until I reminded them.
To start things off I had that pumpkin salsa and my GOD it was really lovely. The salsa worked well with the unsalted vegetable chips. YUM
And then there was the corn. That was also yum. It was only $4 but at Mamasita you get two corns. I didn't mind just the 1 because at the end I was full
The tacos took a while to come ($14 for two) but when they did come it was good. The fish was not overcooked. And the coleslaw was plentiful. Also the tortilla was soft and authentic.
The eggplant queasedilla ($18) had loads of beans in there and eggplants. I really enjoyed the vegetarian version. I had the habanero sauce on top of mine hence all the spiciness.
Last but not least was the cornbread ($3). It was sweet but not too sweet and a palate cleanser.
Rating: 17/20- slow service but good food. They tell us that they get busy on Friday nights which is a good sign as St Kilda sometimes is a little too quiet.
