There is now free wi-fi in the city of Melbourne thanks to Telstra and their 4G network. RNIS had a chance to try their wifi out and here are the results
The WI-FI is for everyone that studies, works or lives in CBD and you don't need any phone credit or be a Telstra customer. You just simply connect to it on your phone. But you have to have a smartphone or tablet.
The wifi is rather slow and problematic at first. You go to your phone's/iPad wifi settings. You have to select Free Telstra Public Wi-fi and then like other wi-fi's agree to the terms and conditions. And then off you go.
It kept dropping out at first. But after that it wasn't too bad. After a few days passed it seemed to work well in Melbourne Central
I tried it at the movies: it didn't work so well. It kept dropping out.
Students when you are in the city you can use the free Wi-Fi. The free wi-fi is available in most places.
