As part of Bupa's best blog competition for 2015
Students it is possible to try a week of having no red meat and we give a no meat week a go
This week is Meat free week which means no red meat. Rather we can have seafood and vegetarian dishes only.
Because being a vegetarian can be cheap we have decided on this course of action.
Monday
I had a salad with boiled sweet potatoes for lunch as well as salmon dish with just that and vegetables. The salad was really easy to make and the salmon was the leftover from last night. I had chia seeds with my yoghurt.
Tuesday
I had a meat free buffet and a salad that day.
Wednesday
Was invited to Cafe Scarvelli and went with their veggie bowl and chips. And tonight I had a smoked salmon salad full of vegetables. I had a lot of leftover salmon
Thursday
I had a vegan meat dish with rice. This is in reality a no meat dish.
Friday
Had vegan meat again. But had lots of vegetarian food at Zaza's such as this lovely garlic bread. Also enjoyed salad.
Saturday
Had lots of yummy Vietnamese food at Kin and then again at the Lord Mayors event. Had a little bit of meat by accident but all the rest was vegetarian. Now is that allowed? I did however eat salad for dinner.
Sunday
Ate a salad for lunch and for dinner had a vegan hotpot with eggs.
Being meat free once in a while is all good. In fact more and more people should try and do a meat free meal once in a while as that is very cheap. A can of beans is about $1.28 per can and it has carbs and about 100 cals. Put this with tomato sauce (the Italian version) and do nachos for lunch.
Vegetables would set you back by about $10-$20 a week depending on what you buy and where you got it from. Some of our meals this week were from invites and others were made from scratch or bought.
Some of the vegetarian foods at the cafes are a little bit cheaper, but not by a lot.
