The 10000 step challenge

As part of Bupa's best blog challenge for 2015

Do you find it a challenge to do 10000 steps per day in a busy lifestyle? Well RNIS has made that all possible.

This project was a 30 day one where RNIS bought a pedometer from DAISO. It was a clip on one where the clip broke by accident.  But it still worked.  RNIS have pockets for most of their things so they were able to place the pedometer in that or they held it.

Their challenge was to do 10000 steps or more per day. The theory behind that is that not enough people are doing that hence the obesity rate in Melbourne. RNIS bloggers wanted to prove that it is possible to do just that.

Just that they did. Around the river where they lived it was 4000-6000 steps per trip. Mopping their room was about 100 steps. Walking the extra mile to the station (instead of tramming) brought them another 1000 steps. It was an easy 25 minute walk to Southern cross from RMIT (via Bourke St). They always walked during the daytime and not at night and when there was many people all going home or to lunch.

And there were other random things that they did such as walk to and from Prahran station to Dish'd which brought them about 500 steps each way and there was the walking around at Paris to Provence which brought them 1500-2000 steps.  Going to other open festivals also brought them about 1000-1500 steps each depending on where it was. The volunteering they did for the Couch everytime brought them about 500-1000 steps (for Salsa).

But there were some limitations, like when they were sick they didn't do the 10000 steps challenge. The bloggers fell to 1000 steps per day. Or when they accidentally reset the pedometer to 0. They always remembered how many steps they did. As for when they were low they always tried to do extra steps and succeeded in their mission.

Students it is possible to do 10000 steps per day provided that you are keen to exercise.
