RNIS was invited by FullerPR to attend these three restaurants.
As part of Good Food Month.
During the Good Food Month there are seven Southgate restaurants which are showcasing their speciality dishes for under $40 including a drink. RNIS chose three restaurants, two of which they did at lunch.
Note these are usually fine dining restaurants. In all of them I had bread which was homemade
Artusi
Artusi is an Italian restaurant that uses good produce to produce the finest quality of ingredients. Here we had the Porchetta (pork belly with spinach filling) and Capellini con zuche which is a handmade pasta with pumpkin filling. The sauce was sweet as they put some cinnamon in there to give it that zing.
I got to try the Pork belly as well and the pork belly was just perfect. I loved the caremelised onions and apple slaw. I thought it was coleslaw when it came out. It did take ages for these two dishes to come out.
The boy really enjoyed his wine.
Amarok
Amarok is a north Canadian restaurant which served us a really lovely salad with the tuna on top. We went there for dinner and had other things as well but it is in another post. Here we will be talking about just that dish.
The tuna was lovely and fresh and the salad was moreish. In fact it was enough for a great summer dinner by the deck. The vegetables were fresh and the pomegranate dressing was to die for. It had that lovely, lovely tang to it. Its great for those that are trying to lose weight before summer as fish has proteins and the plate has heaps and heaps of vegetables. In hindsight they say that you should have 50% of your plate full of veg, 25% full of protein and 25% full of carbs which is the size of your fist.
The Deck
They specialize in seafood and their soft shell crab salad is to die for. Their hummus is homemade and I enjoyed their pomegranate seeds as it added a sweetness to their salad. They used a lot of vegetables which is great to see as a vegetarian. It wasn't too salty either which I enjoyed. It was very light which makes this a perfect option for lunch.
If only they were on Dimmi (just a tiny suggestion)
Many thanks to FullerPR for the invite and do try these restaurants and other participating ones yourself. Some of these lunches are long and lengthy. And if you do go there during November there is a prize to be won. For full menu details and event details do check out the Southgate site.

The Deck
The Deck
has been a well loved institution at Southgate for 15 years, operating
in the coveted upper level location opposite Hamer Hall
. It boasts
a sunny balcony and stunning views of the city skyline, Princes Bridge and the Yarra River. Now it is a place that reminds me very much of the Atlantic where they specialize in a lot of seafood and oysters. They have a special of $39 for two courses (pre theatre, as they support the Arts Centre). It was lovely sitting outside in the sunshine and the salad worked well with the lovely sunshine. Their oysters were fresh and I enjoyed the lovely champagne vinaigrette. Source: chiukatherine on Instagram |
