The Tea Salon has been opened for 11 days and they have received numerous bad reviews on Urbanspoon already.
The Tea Salon is in Emporium and I was excited when I saw this. The Tea Salon is a Sydney restaurant which came to Melbourne. I also read the Sydney blogger reviews and they said great things about the scones and the tea. The Sydney bloggers weren't too happy with their savoury stuff.
But that's not what this place is all about. This place is about high tea, scones, cakes and tea (and champagne). It's like the Hopetoun tea rooms.
There was a huge queue of people all waiting for tea and scones. The place itself is not as big as Hopetoun tea rooms. I love the open kitchen as you can see what they are doing. And I have to agree with one reviewer about the cake- I did see someone take a cake out of the fridge.
I was served by a friendly Irish lady which seems like the owner. There was a very friendly Irish guy as well who reminded me of Colin Fassenidge on My Kitchen Rules.
I also loved the little Tea Ettiquette sheet which kindly reminds us how to drink tea (not that we needed to be reminded).
They have a limited tea list (it is $5.95 per pot but you can have as many refills as you want). Scones are $5.95 each and they come with Chantilly cream and jam. But for those that want cheap there is a $11.90 pot of tea and scone deal.
I had a pot of China Green Tea, a plain and chocolate scone. Despite what others say the scones were not cold or dry. They were moist and warm like the way a scone should be. I really loved that jam and cream. It was so addictive.
The China green tea was just ok. I wished that they had more teas such as gunpowder green.
Verdict: Do try out their high teas as they did look really nice at the table. Do visit it on Mother's day as your mother will be really happy. But do make a booking for a table as I found that those that did got priority over others.
I hope that they do have an Entertainment book offer soon.
